Lumwana Radiants goalkeeper Joel Kanyeba gave a man of the match performance as Lumwana Radiants held leaders Nkana to a goalless draw on Sunday.
The former Power Dynamos goalkeeper kept out a close range first half effort from Freddie Tshimenga as well as a free kick by Joseph Musonda and was equal to the task when he managed to keep out Walter Bwalya on three occasions in the second half.
However, Kanyeba has much to worry about than celebrate because his team has the second worst performing defence in the Super League having shipped in sixteen goals in twelve matches and scoring seven in the process. Only bottom placed Mufulira Blackpool have let in more goals (21) than Lumwana Radiants.
But that did little to deter caretaker coach Sailus Simunyola from heaping praise on his goalkeeper.
“He is an experienced goalkeeper and he did his best in this important game. As you are aware, we are second from the bottom so we came here looking for a win. But a draw is equally good,” said Simunyola.
In a post match interview Nkana assistant coach Zeddy Saileti said he was disappointed with the result because his charges wasted a lot of chances.
“This is football, you score and miss some chances, but I am disappointed because if we’re going to maintain our position at the top, we need to take those chances. So I will blame the team because we couldn’t take our chances,” he said.
The draw means Nkana on 27 points from twelve matches have opened a two point lead from second placed Zanaco.
Lumwana Radiants stay in seventeenth position with ten points, four better than Mufulira Blackpool at the bottom and two behind Napsa Stars and Green Eagles who are separated on goal difference in sixteenth and fifteenth positions respectively.
