Al Ahly clash key to our progression – Numba

Zanaco coach Numba Mumamba says the clash against Al Ahly holds the key to his side’s progression to the quarter finals.

And Al Ahly coach Hossam El Badry says Group D is still open with three teams still having a chance to qualify to the quarter finals.

Mumamba told a pre-match press conference at Heroes Stadium that his side was confident of beating the highly rated Egyptian side.

“This game is very important to Zanaco because it holds the key to progressing to the quarterfinals,” he said.

“We are taking it very seriously because we are playing a very experienced team with quality players and we need to be at our peak to beat a team like Al Ahly.”

He added: “Looking at what the team has put in training we are confident of a positive result.”

Meanwhile Badry said his side was experienced enough to win away matches.

“We know that the game against Zanaco is very important, because as you know in our group we have three teams that still have a chance Wydad Casablanca, Zanaco and of course Al Ahly,” he said.

“We are fighting for qualification both of us so it will be a good game.”

Badry led his side through the paces at Heroes Stadium on the eve of the Group D match.

Zanaco tops Group D on 10 points with one match remaining in the group phase while Al Ahly is second on seven points.

Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca has six points while tail-enders Coton Sport has zero points.

The match kicks off at 15:00 hours at Heroes Stadium with a win guaranteeing Zanaco qualification with one round of matches to spare.
