Chisamba Lungu presence fires up local players

Russia based midfielder Chisamba Lungu teamed up with the local players in training at Woodlands Stadium saying his aim was to keep in shape during the offseason break.

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner has come off the back of a gruelling season in the Russian topflight with his side Ural FC finishing 11th in the league.

Coach Wedson Nyirenda has assembled an all local players squad that is scheduled to face Gabon in an international friendly on June 4 in Libreville.

Chisamba told that he was happy to be home for the offseason break that will see him be part of the Cameroun 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique on June 10.

He also revelled in the unfolding tale about the U-20 national team at the FIFA World Cup where they will come up against Germany on Wednesday in the second round.

“It is always a privilege to be called to save our great nation, we just have to do what we have to do because we know our responsibility and it is always a great feeling to with the national team,” he said.

He could not hide the fact that he was already looking forward to have a run against Mozambique on June 10.

“We all know what is ahead of us; we know the importance of this game not only the Mozambique game but the games ahead of us. We just have to get maximum points and do what we have to do to deliver for this great nation.”

On the U-20 run at the World Cup, Chisamba said the boys had not just done well at the tournament but had done the country proud by winning the Africa Cup of Nations.

“The U-20 has been doing great not only where they are now, they started with the AFCON which we hosted and they won. They are champions and they believe in themselves. They should do the same thing,” he said.

“I believe they can do greater things, these are the future of this country, we just have to invest in them and support them.”

The FC Ural skipper was at home with the squad, that has some recognizable faces to him among them Fwayo Tembo, Jonas Sakuwaha and Ignatius Lwipa with whom their paths have crossed at national team before.
