Zesco United bolster squad with nine new signings

Zesco United have announced that they have bolstered their squad with nine players ahead of their participation in the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup.

Four of the new arrivals are Congolese players namely Idris Ilunga Mbombo, Marcel Kasongo Kalonda, Patrick Kashita Kongolo and Bob Kasua Ngoi.

Kabwe Warriors forward Idris Mbombo completes a permanent move to the Ndola-based outfit following loan stint that saw him score 17 goals in all competitions last season.

Kalonda is the other player who joined from Kabwe Warriors.

Kongolo arrives from relegated Mufulira Blackpool having scored three goals in his first season in the Super League including one against Zesco United.

Known for his elasticity and alertness at Lusaka Tigers, Kasua is the latest addition to Zesco’s goalkeeping department which already has four goalkeepers.

Other new signings include the duo of Fackson Kapumbu and Dave Daka from Zanaco as well as Chibesa Chanda Mwape from Lusaka Tigers.

They have also promoted two players from their academies namely Bwalya Chiti from Zesco Victory Falls and Dumisani Mwanza from Malaiti Rangers.

Zesco United also confirmed departures of several players.

Clatous Chama has left the club to join Egyptian side Al-Ittihad Alexandria following the expiry of his contract.

Tanzanian forward Juma Ally Liuzio has joined Simba Sporting Club of Tanzania while Nigerian left back Ayo Oluwafemi’s contract was not renewed.

Emmanuel Mayuka and Matthews Nkowane have joined newly promoted side Buildcon (AM Welding) on loan and Lackson Mwamba Chewe will be moving out on loan to a yet to be named club.

Lottie Bwalya, Maybin Mwaba and Nyambe Henry Mulenga were released and redeployed to Zesco Limited were they will be engaged in non-football related duties.
