Zesco beat Dynamos to rise to fourth place







Zesco United on Wednesday returned to the business of defending their Faz Super League title, with a 2-1 home win over Lusaka Dynamos at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Mwape Mwelwa and Idris Mbombo cancelled out Luka Chamanga’s first half penalty to collect the three points.

Zesco were without their three Kenya stars Jesse Were, defender David Owino and midfielder Anthony Akumu who only returned from Harambee Stars duty on Tuesday.

Chamanga put third from last Dynamos ahead from the spot in the 17th minute, off a Ben Banh handball but Mwelwa equalised in the 20th minute.

The two sides stayed locked at 1-1 until the 80th minute when Mbombo clinched the winner.

Zesco moved to fourth from fifth on 46 points, 18 points behind leaders Zanaco after 21 and 26 matches played.

The champions exchanged places with Green Buffaloes who drop to fifth after losing 1-0 away to in-form Napsa Stars.

Collins Sikombe’s 19th minute goal saw Napsa leap from 12th to 9th position on 35 points.

Nkwazi drop to tenth after a 1-1 home draw with Lusaka Tigers but the latter remain second from bottom inside last four relegation zone.

And fourth from last Mufulira Wanderers drew 0-0 away at mid-table Nakambala Leopards.
