Mufulira Blackpool on brink of relegation

Mufulira Blackpool will have to wait a bit longer before they are officially relegated from the MTN FAZ Super League after they played out a goalless draw with Nkwazi at Edwin Imboela Stadium on Saturday.

After Saturday’s result, chances of survival are out of Mathews Njovu’s side, now on 11 points from 28 matches and can only go up to 29 points should they win their remaining six matches.

Their survival is now hinged on results involving Green Eagles in 14th position with 28 points and Mufulira Wanderers in 15th with 27 points.

A victory for Mufulira Wanderers against Nkana on Sunday plus a win for Green Eagles over Power Dynamos on October 8 will confirm Blackpool’s demotion.

Elsewhere, Lusaka Dynamos in 16th position with 26 points also suffered a setback in their quest for survival as they lost 1-0 away to Lumwana Radiants. Eddie Sinyangwe scored the lone goal for the hosts. However, Dynamos still have a chance at survival as the team immediately outside the relegation zone is only two points above them with seven matches left to play.

Lusaka Tigers in 17th position with 21 points only have Mufulira Blackpool below them. They lost 2-0 away to Red Arrows, a result that meant there was no change in points difference from Lusaka Dynamos who are five points ahead.

Victory for Red Arrows meant that they stayed in 6th position but moved to 40 points thanks to goals in each half by Festus Mbewe and Adubelo Phiri.
