Nyirenda names his provisional Zambia team

New Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda, has named a provisional 33-member team ahead of Chipolopolo’s 2018 World Cup Group B qualifying match, against Nigeria on October 9 in Ndola.

The team includes a debut call-up for Power Dynamos defender Lawrence Chungu, who has enjoyed outstanding form at the Kitwe side so far this season.

Nyirenda has also named four of Chungu’s club mates in his team, including midfielder Fwayo Tembo, who announced in July that he had declared himself unavailable for Zambia duty until further notice.

Striker Patson Daka, who has scored eight of his nine goals this season for Power, over the last two months, is back in the team.

Power’s central defender Billy Mutale completes the quartet from the Kitwe side.

Striker Collins Mbesuma, who missed Zambia’s final 2017 Africa Cup Group E qualifier against Kenya, on September 4 due to suspension, has been recalled.

Also back in the team is Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and midfielder Chisamba Lungu of Russian club FC Ural, who were dropped for the Kenya match.

In all, nine foreign-based players comprise Nyirenda debut side.

Meanwhile, ex-Zambia captain Christopher Katongo, his brother Felix Katongo and their Green Buffaloes club mate and defender Buchizya Mfune, have not been called-up by Nyirenda.
