Kabwe shines as Zanaco thrash Wanderers

Rodrick Kabwe scored the opener and provided two assists as leaders Zanaco restored a five point lead at the top following a 4-0 defeat of Mufulira Wanderers at Sunset Stadium on Saturday.

All four of Zanaco’s goals were scored from set piece situations.

Kabwe broke the deadlock from the penalty spot awarded following a handball by Warren Kunda in the 18th minute.

He turned provider in 53rd minute when he fired in a cross from a corner which substitute Kwame Attram headed home with his first touch, five minutes after replacing Saith Sakala.

His second assist came in similar fashion eight minutes later, this time Aubrey Funga netted with a glancing header at the near post following a corner.

The visitors were punished again following another set piece when they failed to defend a corner delivered by Charles Zulu with substitute Ernest Mbewe rattling the net after being set up by Potipher Zulu in the 85th minute.

The victory pushed Zanaco to 58 points five better than second placed Nkana who had earlier in the day closed the gap to two points with a 2-0 victory over Lusaka Dynamos thanks to goals by Freddy Tshimenga and Jacob Ngulube.

Meanwhile, third placed Power Dynamos were two strong for visiting Green Buffaloes whom they defeated 4-1 at Arthur Davies Stadium.

In form striker Patson Daka scored a brace to score his ninth and tenth goals of the season while Kelvin Kampamba and Luka Lungu contributed a goal apiece to help Danny Kabwe’s side keep pace with Zanaco and Nkana.

Jack Chirwa scored Buffaloes’ consolation goal in the second half from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, Red Arrows left it late as they defeated Green Eagles 1-0 in Choma thanks to substitute Paul Katema who netted in the 87th minute, five minutes after replacing Francis Kombe.

And Anos Tembo helped Nchanga Rangers to a 1-0 victory over Nakambala Leopards in Chingola to move to eighth position with 31 points.

Action continues on Sunday with a double header at Independence Stadium where Nkwazi will square up with Forest Rangers before Lusaka Tigers entertain Lumwana Radiants.

Mufulira Blackpool will be at home to Zesco United.
