The Zambia Development Team leaves for Yemen Monday afternoon for this Saturday’s international friendly match against that country in Sanaa.

Zambia is using the training camp and international match in the Middle East to give Dario Bonetti and his technical staff an opportunity to assess as many local league players, prepare for the 2012 CAN qualifier against Libya and look ahead t the Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup.

The team will include goalie Kalililo Kakonje, Noah Chivuta Sikombe and Rainford Kalaba in 20-play strong contingent. Zanaco players will be excused as the Zambian super league champions play an Orange Confederations Cup match against CS Sfaxien in Tunis on the same weekend.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) communications manager, Erick Mwanza, said the game against Yemen was important for the coach as it will accord him an opportunity to see as many local players as possible in international competition games.

“Over the years, we have consistently stated the FAZ’s commitment to exposing our players to the best international matches. It is the stated policy of the FAZ to give the players as much exposure as we possibly can, because it is from these international matches that we can help them prepare for competition matches and other assignments,” Mwanza said, adding that it is more important for Bonetti, having recently taken over as Chipolopolo boss.

“The game against Yemen is one of several we are lining up for the team, coach Bonetti and his technical staff to look at our league players, especially the ones that soon we will be competing in the Cosafa Challenge Cup.

The match against Yemen and several others, which we will announce when we’re done with our consultations and negotiations, will help us prepare for qualifiers and regional championships and give the coaches’ time to work with the players as we consolidate our Chipolopolo, which is at a very high level,” Mwanza said.

The travelling players include goalkeepers Kalililo Kakonje and Jacob Banda, Rainford Kalaba, Billy Mwanza, Jimmy Chisenga, Lusaka Lungu, Simon Bwalya, Nyambe Mulenga, Derrick Mwansa, Stephen Kabamba, Joseph Sitali, Kennedy Mudenda, Innocent Mwaba, Felix Sunzu, Kennedy Chola, Dennis Banda, Cosmas Kabaso, Moses Mulambi and Noah Sikombe Chivuta.
