ZAMBIA THRASH COMOROS – Sunday, September 05, 2010
Zambia trounced the Comoros Islands 4-0 to get their Nations Cup qualifying campaign off to a great start in Lusaka on Sunday.

The big home win has catapulted Zambia to the top of Group C after Mozambique were held to a 0-0 draw by Libya at home.

Zambia’s Chipolopolo raced to a three-goal lead within half an hour, with goals from Rainford Kalaba, Tunisia-based Fwayo Tembo and James Chamanga, who plays in China.

Kalaba opened scoring after just six minutes with a simple tap-in off a delivery by Felix Katongo, before Tembo increased the tally on 22 minutes.

Big striker Chamanga headed home on 28 minutes from a cross by Tembo.

However, the fans at the Nkoloma Stadium had to wait till the end of the match to celebrate a fourth goal courtesy of an effort by Emmanuel Mayuka.

This match was delayed by a day after the Eritrean referees were stuck in Dubai, with Zambia even putting South African referees on standby.

Zambia, under new coach Dario Bonetti, face a difficult game in Libya next month, while the Comoros host Mozambique.
