SuperSport International Head of Africa Gary Rathbone says the rising standards of Zambian football and the proficient administration of the Football Association of Zambia (FA) will continue to attract many corporates into local football sponsorship. Rathbone says over the last few years, football in Zambia had witnessed a steady rise in competition and standards which had made Zambian clubs and the national team very competitive on the international front.

He said the corporate world would not invest in Zambian football and FAZ if there was no evidence of football standards improving and the organization of football to international standards.

Rathbone said in Lusaka Tuesday that the direct result of impressive administration and running of the league was the number of corporates sponsoring and wanting to sponsor FAZ.

Rathbone said this when he briefed the media at the Southern Sun Ridgeway following the unveiling of Barclays as the official broadcast sponsor of the Zambian Super League (ZSL).

He said the future of Zambian football was very bright adding that with success in administration and the field; many more sponsors would come on board to partner with the national football governing body.

The deal with Barclays will also see ZNBC TV and TV2 carry live broadcast of the ZSL including the magazine show Mpila Zambia.

Barclays Managing Director Bret Packard said Barclays was proud to invest in football and take the game to millions of viewers across Zambia and Africa. Barclays also sponsors the Barclays Cup in Zambia and the Barclays Premiership in England among many of its corporate involvements.
