The Zambia Under-20 and Under-17 national teams play an exhibition/training match to mark the official opening of the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka on Tuesday.
The game will kick off at 10:00hours.
The OYDC will be officially opened by President Rupiah Banda and International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge. Rogge arrived in Lusaka on Monday and immediately declared his admiration of Zambia’s peace, sporting culture and prosperity; attributes he said his organization used to select Zambia for the construction of the first high-tech sports centre in the world.
A delegation from the Football Association of Zambia will join mission of about 2,000 dignitaries in witnessing the commissioning of the facility; including IOC director-general, Urs Lacotte who arrived in the advance party on Sunday.
The OYDC has been set up as a multi-purpose complex, including outdoor facilities for athletics, football, basketball, tennis, handball, volleyball and hockey, an indoor sports venue, a boxing hall, a gym, a number of classrooms and locker rooms.
The centre will house six international federations, namely athletics, basketball, boxing, weightlifting, handball and hockey.
