1.0 OPENING & WELCOME
Welcome to the Football House and today’s press briefing.
FAZ ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Last weekend, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) hosted a very successful annual meeting. It is a tradition of the FAZ to hold annual meetings at the start of each year and the 2010 meeting was well attended, conducted and business of such gatherings handled in a manner that continues to keep our game on the path for continued development.
The Football Association of Zambia wishes to commend all delegates and councillors for their attendance and effective participation; most importantly for ensuring that football came out the winner as the football family committed to working together, strengthening the spirit of dialogue, consultation and individual and collective hard work for the good of the game.
FAZ further wishes to extend a hand of gratitude to the various partners and stakeholders who worked with the Association to ensure that the meeting was hosted.
3.0 CONTINENTAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
PRESENTATTION TO FAZ ON QUALIFICATION TO NATIONS CUP 2010
This weekend, our continental club championships representatives return to action when they compete for qualification to the next round of the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup.
Zanaco are carrying a 1-0 lead away to Asec Mimosas while Zesco get into the Saturday fixture against Warri Wolves to overcome a 0-3 deficit.
As FAZ we believe that our teams have prepared adequately and are ready for the respective challenges. We know and understand that the outcome of any past games cannot be used as a measure for results of future matches. Both Zanaco and Zesco have the capability to post good results and qualify to the next round; for Zanaco the penultimate round and Zesco the round of 16.
We therefore wish to call upon all fans and football followers to rally with and behind the teams so that we can emerge victorious in both encounters. For Zesco who are playing at home, we need to turn up in large numbers to ensure that we cheer the team to victory and subsequently qualification.
Zesco host the Nigerian team at the Arthur Davies stadium in Kitwe.
4.0 FAZ/KCM PREMIER LEAGUE
This weekend, league games will be played Friday, Saturday and Monday. Leagues in the northern zone of the country will play their rescheduled games on Friday while those in the midlands and the south will play Saturday. The whole league will then be in action again on Monday with the exception of the games involving Zanaco who have flown out on international duty.
We decided that the northern zone plays Friday so that fans can have one game on Saturday in that part of the country – the international match Zesco United vs. Warri Wolves in the Orange Confederations Cup. We want the stadium packed to capacity so that we can cheer Zesco to a victory that should qualify the team to the next round.
The Super League fixtures are available on line at www.fazfootball.com
5.0 CAF U 17 QUALIFIERS
RWANDA CAF U17 2011 & FIFA U17 WORLD CUP MEXICO 2011
Next weekend, our Under 17 boys will be in Uganda to play that country’s U17 team in the preliminary round of qualification for the 2011 CAF U17 championship. The 2011 CAF U17 cup will be hosted by Rwanda.
These qualifiers also serve as qualification games for the FIFA U17 World Cup which Mexico will host, also in 2011.
We are determined to ensure that our boys prepare adequately for these qualifier matches. To that effect, our national team resumes training tomorrow in Lusaka with a focus on the game against Uganda. The team will camp at the FAZ Technical Centre in Lusaka. The team will train throughout the weekend holiday period and will stay together to the time of departure for Uganda. Details of the team’s travel will be communicated to you as soon as we possibly can.
Over the last two months, the U17 technical team has been busy identifying talents from across the country. This exercise culminated in a match between the Lusaka based U17 boys and their counterparts from Eastern Province who they beat 8-0 in a training/exhibition match at the Woodlands Stadium on Youth Day. This exercise will continue because we have many young talents who can form part of the U17 and U20 teams.

6.0 U20 INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY
MALAWI VS. ZAMBIA
The Zambia U20 team is scheduled to travel to Malawi next week for an international friendly match against their Malawian counterparts next week April 10.
This will help the team shape up for their first round fixture of the 17th Orange Africa U20 Championship. The U20 Championship will be hosted by Libya next year. Zambia is on by and is exempt from the preliminary round. So our U20 boys await the winners of the fixture between Mauritius and Comoros.
The first round fixture will be played on 24 July 2010 with Zambia hosting the first leg and the return leg being played a fortnight later.
Again, FAZ is committed to ensuring that we provide a platform for our youths and juniors because they are the future. It is important to expose them to as many games and competitions because that will enhance their competitiveness and make them into big stars for the Chipolopolo in years to come.
