The Mpila Zambia football magazine show is back on Thursday, a fortnight ahead of the Super League resumption on March 13.

In this year’s first edition, the local crew visit champions Zanaco, who started their campaign with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League preliminary round, first leg fixture against Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) a fortnight ago.

Coach Nyirenda, whose side lost 1-0 in Kampala, has set a new target for the team as he reveals six new signings. Striker Makundika Sakala and the club’s 2008 Footballer of the Year, Winstone Kalengo, also talk about the challenging season ahead.

You can also meet Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations star, Thomas Nyirenda, as he recollects a crucial moment that denied the team a place in the semifinals at the competition.

Nyirenda, a debutant defender at the Angola tournament, missed a crucial penalty against Nigeria after the two teams settled for a goalless draw in regulation time, for Zambia to bow out 5-4 on penalties. It’s up-close with Nyirenda and his family in our player profile.

Also in the show is the ambitious Zesco United, who beat Zanaco 1-0 on Saturday in the season-opening Charity Shield, named after footballing great Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu.

Team technical director Andre Mtine charts the team’s preparatory programme, starting with a 10-day training camp in Tanzania, while former international defender Billy Mwanza looks at his return to local action, as Zesco’s new catch Arthur Kaseloki relaxes in his new home.

• Mpila Zambia will be broadcast at 7pm (CAT) on SuperSport Select.
