Nigeria 0-0 Zambia
The Chipolopolo displayed great team spirit and a wonderful flair of attacking football as they stretched the Super Eagles in a dress rehearsal for the 27th Orange Africa Cup of Nations kicking off in Angola at the weekend.
In a warm up-match played at the Absa stadium in Durban, both teams fielded their best squads as they sought to gauge their preparedness for the bi-annual African soccer show-piece.
The Zambians were quickly off the mark from the first whistle and dominated for long spells with midfield maestro Rainford Kalaba coming close to breaking the deadlock with a delicious free kick midway through the first half.
FC Utrecht top man Jacob Mulenga also came close with his solo effort by was thwarted by a Nigeria defence anchored around Everton Joseph Yobo and goalie Vincent Enyeama. CHAN 2009 golden boot winner Given Singuluma also saw his chance go begging as the Chipolopolo pressed hard for a goal.
The second half was evenly balanced as both sides sought the elusive goal.
FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya described the team performance as “good preparations and a sign that the technical bench and team had made great strides in preparing the team for Angola.”
Zambia next plays World Cup finalists South Korea in Johannesburg on Saturday before jetting into Angola to face Tunisia, Cameroon and Gabon in Group D. Nigeria is in Group C and face champions Egypt, Mozambique and Benin.
