CRANES SURVIVE CHIPOLOPOLO ASSAULT - Wednesday, August 11, 2010
Uganda 1-1 Zambia
Date: Wednesday 11 August
Venue: Nelson Mandela Stadium, Kampala
Kick-Off: 16:30 EAT, 15:30hors CAT (Zambian time)

Dario Bonetti got off his reign as Zambia National Soccer Team trainer with an away draw; his Chipolopolo just falling short of cutting to pieces the Cranes in their own ‘roost’ as the hosts’ second half strike salvaged them some home pride.

A deflected strike from Rainford Kalaba, officially designated as an own goal gave Zambia a deserved lead after 30minutes. The Ugandans rallied in the second half and found the back of the Chipolopolo net to level 1-1 after the hour mark.

Both teams were using the game to prepare for their respective 2012 Nations Cup qualifiers at the start of September.

Bonetti lined-up a squad packed with local talent as he had a first feel of his multi-talented squad ahead of the 2012 Gabon/Equatorial Guinea qualifying campaign.

Zambia hosts Comoros on 4 September.

Bonetti said the match was very important; adding that he took it very seriously as he begins work towards the aim of winning the championship for Zambia for the first time in the Gabon/Equatorial Guinea tournament.
