World soccer governing body Fifa has commended the football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for top performance and taking the lead in Africa and the Third World in professionalising its secretariat.
Fifa has since given FAZ a non-conditional grant amounting to US$61 000 as IT support to the secretariat. This has been done in recognition of the efforts made in professionalising the secretariat of the FAZ.
Zambia is currently the only recipient in Africa of this grant and is an achievement on the part of the executive committee and the secretariat in running football. The support will come in form of laptops, personal computers, printers, scanners, a server and other equipment in order to make the running of the FAZ secretariat more effective.
As a result of this support, it has been decided by the executive committee that current IT equipment at FAZ secretariat will be donated to provincial football associations in order to establish the first ever provincial FAZ offices.
So far, office accommodation is secure in Lusaka, Kabwe, Mongu, Chipata and Mansa. Other provincial associations have been advised to take their cue from their colleagues, to secure accommodation in order for this equipment to be delivered.
Establishment of these FAZ offices will make administration of football far easier. Each province will receive a computer and a four-in-one printer, scanner, copier and fax. All provincial offices will be linked online with the FAZ secretariat.
