Patson Daka: Chambeshi’s top marksman

No longer just that boy from Kafue anymore, Daka has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in junior ranks on the African continent.

The 19 year old was voted 2017 Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament and is looking to cement his reputation in junior ranks going into the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017.

He has already added a UEFA Youth Championship gold medal having contributed a goal in the semi final against Barcelona and another in the final against Benfica.

His knack for goals at the Total U-20 Africa of Nations helped Zambia to its first CAF continental title at junior level.

Daka scored four goals at the AFCON and has been snapped up by FC Liefering of Austria where he has since tasted Europa action.

On the domestic front has already played across all the national teams starting with the Under-17.

It has not always been an easy ride, but Daka has dusted himself to carry on with his game. He remains a hot prospect for the future of the Zambian game.

The Kafue Celtic product had an impressive season with Power Dynamos in the 2016 MTN/FAZ league accounting for 10 goals largely from substitute appearances.

He has twice been named Zambian Young Player of the Year, Daka will be among the junior bullets coach Beston Chambeshi will be banking on to carry the country’s World Cup dream.

Having already tested glory when he captained the Under-20 to the Cosafa title 2016 and also being part of the 2017 Africa Cup winning squad Daka is yearning for more glory with his sights firmly on the global stage.

Zambia is in Group C alongside Portugal, Costa Rica and Iran and will be based on the Island of Jeju.

The opening fixture will be against Portugal on May 21, 2017 at the 29, 346 capacity Jeju World Cup stadium with the second match staged three days later against Iran before concluding their group matches with a tie against Costa Rica at Cheonan Sports Complex on May 29, 2017.

The match between Zambia and Portugal kicks off at 06:45 A.M with pay television channel SuperSport will televise all the matches.
