Liwewe thanks Barclays Bank Zambia Plc for encouraging saving culture

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Secretary Ponga Liwewe has thanked Barclays Bank Zambia Plc for their partnership in uplifting the standard of football in Zambia and for their involvement in providing financial advice on management of financial resources.

Liwewe was speaking during the opening ceremony of the Barclays Cup Entrepreneurship and Financial Programme at Hotel Intercontinental Lusaka on Thursday where he stated that it was gratifying that Barclays Bank Zambia Plc were on board to share their financial know-how which was invaluable in creating opportunities to create wealth not only for football players but the bigger football family as well.

The Barclays Cup Entrepreneurship and Financial Programme which aims to equip football players and officials with skills in management of financial resources was coordinated by Barclays Bank Community Affairs Manager Ms Lucy Mataka.

Barclays Bank Zambia Plc are the sponsors of the Barclays Cup and their program is designed in conjuction with the Football Association of Zambia to educate football administrators and players on how to manage their finances by encouraging them to open bank accounts with financial institutions registered with the Bank of Zambia.

In attendance were players and officials from Barclays Cup 2016 participants based in Lusaka, Central and Southern provinces. The teams in attendance were Green Buffaloes, Kabwe Warriors, Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy, Nampundwe, Nkwazi, Zanaco and Zesco Victoria Falls.

The event was also attended by FAZ Head of Administration and Competitions Mr Julio Chiluba, FAZ Registrar Mr Joel Kabika and FAZ Marketing Manager Nchimunya Mayinga.

Barclays Bank Zambia Plc are the sponsors of the Barclays Cup competition which runs every year between September and November.

"Barclays Bank are not here to gain but to give back to the community," Liwewe said.

"You can create wealth with the money that you are making through football. Big names like Pogba, Drogba and Yaya Toure are rich because they managed their finances properly. All you need is to be focussed and know how to use your wealth wisely," he said.

Liwewe also announced that the rescheduled 2016 Barclays Cup quarter-final match between Zesco United and Konkola Blades which was scheduled to take place at Nkoloma Stadium on Sunday had been moved to Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

He added that despite the venue change, the match will still be played on Sunday, 2nd October 2016 at 1500hrs.
