Buffaloes gore Wanderers

Green Buffaloes moved up to fourth in the MTN Faz Super League after they came from a goal down to win 4-1 at home to Mufulira Wanderers in a Week 27 match played at Independence Stadium on Wednesday.

Joseph Kasongo had given the visitors the lead with his fourth goal of the campaign in the 10th minute but Allan Mukuka equalised ten minutes later. The hosts took the lead for the first time in the match through Mukuka who bagged his brace in the 38th.

Brian Mwila added the third goal in the 72nd minute before Happy Kaunda put the icing on the cake in additional time to complete the scoring in a one sided affair.

Wednesday's victory for Green Buffaloes came on the back of a 1-0 win over Nkana on Saturday and takes them to 43 points from 27 matches, a point above fifth placed Zesco United who have played seven matches less.

The defeat for Mufulira Wanderers compounds their quest for survival, placing them firmly in the relegation zone after failing to win a single match since their 1-0 win over Forest Rangers on July 15. Since then they have recorded 5 draws and 4 defeats, scoring 5 goals and conceding 12 in the process.

Elsewhere, Forest Rangers returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over bottom placed Mufulira Blackpool thanks to first half goals by Felix Nyaende and Logic Ching’andu.

Patrick Phiri's side had not registered a win since August 2-1 when they defeated Red Arrows at Mwanawasa Stadium. Since then they lost to Power Dynamos and Zesco United before playing out draws with Nkwazi and Green Eagles. The victory pushed them up to 8th on the log with 33 points.

The result means that Mufulira Blackpool will be relegated from the MTN FAZ Super League if they lose their next match and Green Eagles and Mufulira Wanderers win their respective matches.

And Red Arrows moved up to 6th with 37 points following a 1-0 victory over Kabwe Warriors who dropped to 7th position thanks to an 18th minute goal by Bruce Musakanya.

And ten man Nkwazi held on to play to a goalless draw away to Green Eagles. The Police outfit were reduced to ten men in the second half after Kennedy Lungu was given a straight red card in the dying minutes by referee Allan Simukonda.

Other matches from this round were played earlier in the season.

Lusaka Dynamos played out to 1-1 draw with Nakambala Leopards on May 14.

Nchanga Rangers lost 1-0 at home to Napsa Stars on September 2 while Power Dynamos defeated Nkana 1-0 on September 3.

Zanaco versus Lumwana Radiants and Lusaka Tigers versus Zesco United will be played at a later date owing to number of Zanaco and Zesco United players called up to the national team.
