Nkana close gap on leaders Zanaco to two points

Nkana moved to within two points of MTN FAZ Super league leaders Zanaco after they defeated Lusaka Dynamos 2-0 in the early kick off of the double header at Sunset Stadium on Saturday.

With Zanaco on 55 points playing Mufulira Wanderers in a 15h00 kick off at the same venue, Nkana moved to 53 points and will hope that Wanderers do them a favour by defeating their hosts.

After a goalless first half filled with chances for either side it was Freddy Tshimenga who opened the scoring after he was set up by Simon Bwalya in the 65th minute and Jacob Ngulube made sure of maximum points six minutes later with a thunderbolt at the top of the box following an assist by Man-of-the Match Simon Bwalya.

Nkana started the match with clear intent of scoring early and it did not take long before Ngulube tested Charlton Mwala in goal for Dynamos with a speculative header iwhich was tipped over and behind for a corner in the second minute.

The visitors’ second chance came in the 12th minute following a corner delivered by Joseph Musonda but Amos Simwanza, unmarked at the far post, could not direct his free-header on target.

The hosts were not to be outdone in the early exchanges as four minutes later Kennedy Musonda broke through the Nkana defence but he could not beat Kelvin Malunga who had come out to narrow the angle.

Simon Bwalya and Walter Bwalya had good chances of their own in the 24th and 30th minutes respectively but their headed efforts went wide of target.

The second half was a balanced affair in terms of possession but it was the visitors who converted their chances and despite the introduction by the hosts of regular captain Jubell Sakala and Marvin Jere for Webster Muzaza and Mutale Bwalya respectively, it was the visitors who came away with maximum points.

The victory was perfect recovery for Nkana who lost 1-0 to city rivals Power Dynamos a week ago while Lusaka Dynamos failed to build on their 3-2 defeat of Green Buffaloes on August 28.
