Stars arrive in Ndola ahead of Afcon tie

Kenya’s Harambee Stars arrived in Ndola on Thursday evening ahead of their group E 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Zambia scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday.

The 31-man delegation, which includes 20 players and 11 officials, arrived through Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport aboard a Kenya Airways flight which touched down early on Thursday morning.

Neither Zambia nor Kenya have qualified for the biennial tournament which will be hosted by Gabon from 14 January to 5 February.

Stars are bottom of Group E with four points while Zambia are in third place with six points (separated by goal difference from Congo in second spot). Guinea Bissau qualified for the final tournament having amassed an insurmountable ten points with a match to spare.

Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi could not be drawn on his expectations ahead of the match, which has been scheduled to kick off at 4:30pm CAT.

“We lost the reverse match in Nairobi, but I was not the coach so we are just focusing on the match we will play on Sunday,” he said.

Okumbi took his team for an evening training session at the Levy Mwanawasa Annex pitch on Thursday.
