Power close gap to two points with Dynamos win

Power Dynamos came from a goal down to defeat Lusaka Dynamos 2 – 1 and closed the gap on league leaders Zesco United to two points thanks to quickfire goals by Luka Lungu in a week 17 match played at Sunset Stadium on Saturday.

Zesco United will restore the gap at the top to 5 points with a win at Napsa Stars on Sunday.

Chola Simuyamba had given the hosts the lead in the 54th minute but double strikes in the 77th and 82nd minutes from Luka Lungu were enough for the visitors to maintain second position on the standings.

The victory pushed Power Dynamos to 36 points while Lusaka Dynamos dropped into 9th with 21 points.

And Zanaco stayed in third place with 32 points thanks to Aubrey Funga who breached a stubborn Forest Rangers defence three minutes after the break.

The result halted a five match winless streak for Zanaco who had not registered a win since their 2 – 0 win against Red Arrows on June 3 while the defeat meant that Forest Rangers maintained seventh position with 23 points.

At Nchanga Stadium, goals from Festus Mbewe, Bruce Musakanya and Daniel Sibanda gave maximum points to Red Arrows following a 3 – 2 victory over Nchanga Rangers to move into 8th position with 22 points. Emmanuel Banda scored both goals for Nchanga Rangers.

And in Mazabuka, coach Patrick Phiri picked up his first points as Nakambala Leopards defeated fellow beleaguered side National Assembly 2 – 0 thanks to a double on either side of the break by Moses Siyanda.

Despite the victory, the Mazabuka-based outfit still crops the bottom of the standings with 13 points, a point adrift of Napsa Stars and National Assembly in 15th and 14th positions respectively.

And the fixture featuring two teams placed in the top five, it was Nkwazi in fourth who opened the scoring in the 53rd through Steward Chikandiwa but Taonga Bwembya equalised twenty minutes later through a free kick for the two sides to share the spoils.

Nkana and Konkola Blades also played out a 1 – 1 draw at Nkana Stadium. Simon Bwalya put the hosts in front when he tapped home from a cross by John Sikaumbwe in the 24th minute only for Happy Kaunda to level matters at the stroke of half time.

The visitors finished the match with a man down following a second bookable a offence by Masauso Zimba in the 75th minute.

Action continues on Sunday with a double header at Woodlands Stadium where Green Buffaloes will host Green Eagles before Napsa Stars entertain Zesco United.
