Zambia U20 Women thrash Tanzania

Ireen Lungu scored twice and Memory Phiri and Barbra Banda contributed a goal apiece as the Zambia U-20 women’s national football team defeated Tanzania 4 – 0 in the first round first leg of the Caf U-20 World Cup qualification match played at Azam Sports Complex on Saturday.

It did not take long for Zambia to settle as Memory Phiri broke the deadlock in the 4th minute.

Phiri’s goal gave Zambia the impetus to dominate and they managed to score two more goals before half time.

Lungu scored her first of the match in the 20th minute before captain of the side Barbra Banda put the game beyond the hosts in the 33rd minute.

Mutapa’s women started the second half in similar fashion to the first and four minutes after the restart they won and dispatched a penalty through Ireen Lungu.

Zambia could not increase on their impressive tally thereafter but they will be confident of finishing the job and qualify to the second round when the second leg is played at Nkoloma Stadium on July 25.
