Nkana edge out Buffaloes







After losing 3 – 0 to Lusaka Dynamos and replacing Beston Chambeshi Nkana with Aggrey Chiyangi Nkana returned to winning ways with a 2 – 0 victory at home to ten-man Green Buffaloes on Saturday.

The visitors had Felon Sitonya sent off in the 74th minute for a dangerous challenge on Shadreck Musonda.

Nkana scored early in the 7th minute when Simon Bwalya eluded the Buffaloes defence at the near post to head home Shadreck Musonda’s cross.

Nkana could have increased the advantage five minutes from the break but Musonda’s goal from inside the area was ruled out for offside by referee Milton Mweemba.

Musonda eventually got his name on the score sheet in the 69th minute when he tapped home Tony Odur’s square pass in the 55th minute.

The victory pushed Nkana from ninth into seventh level on 16 points with Power Dynamos and Nkwazi.

Coach Aggrey Chiyangi said his team was not impressive on the day but was quick to point out that winning the match was more important.

“I know that we haven’t played to expectation but what is important is the result which we got. We will try to build on that,” said Chiyengi who took charge of the team a week ago.

And Chiyangi’s counterpart Bilton Musonda said his third placed team was still in contention despite the loss that came on the back of three straight victories.

Meanwhile league leaders Zanaco have opened a four-point lead at the summit of the table following 1- 0 away victory over Konkola Blades thanks to Aubrey Funga ‘ s goal scored in the 69th minute.

The victory means that Zanaco moved to 24 points from ten matches ahead of Zesco United in second who have played two games fewer.

And Mighty Mufulira Wanderers reclaimed fourth place thanks to goals by Brian Ambungeni and substitute Rabby Lwambula in their 2-1 home victory over Napsa Stars.

Kegan Zulu scored the consolation goal for the visitors.

At Nchanga Stadium hosts Nchanga Rangers rued their missed chances to draw goalless at home to Nakambala Leopards.

Rangers forward Fashion Sakala had the best chance that could have taken the Chingola based out of the relegation zone in the 50th minute when he stepped up to take a penalty but he missed target.

At Imboela Stadium a lone goal from Walter Bwalya gave Forest Rangers maximum points against Nkwazi.

The victory meant that Forest Rangers moved to 13 points while Nkwazi have stalled on 16 points.
