Zambia lose to Namibia on penalties

The Zambia men’s national football team will participate in the plate section of the 2015 Cosafa Cup following a dramatic 5 – 4 defeat on post-match penalties against Namibia to surrender the trophy they won on home soil two years ago.

After a goalless 90 minutes at Moruleng Stadium the match went straight to penalties with Zambia converting through Kennedy Mweene, Kondwani Mtonga, Jimmy Ndhlovu and Aaron Katebe while Emmanuel Mbola sent his effort over the crossbar.

Nambia’s penalty kicks were converted by Ryno Musambani, Ronald Ketjijere,Willem Mwedihanga, Hendrick Soameb and Deon Hoto.

Coach Honour Janza congratulated Namibia saying they had put up a gallant fight to prevent Zambia from taking the match.

“I must congratulate Namibia for their win. They put up a gallant fight; my boys fought well, we did what we could but we could not break them. They played good football. Well done to them,” Janza said.

Janza’s side will face the loser of the match between Ghana and Madagascar in the first plate semi final at the Olympic Stadium on May 27.
