Qualification is most important as champions name same 24 for Kampala
A 24 man strong squad – the one which was called for the first leg against Uganda last week – has been retained for the African champions’ return match qualifier match next month.
The Football Association of Zambia, FAZ has since stressed that Herve Renard is focused on Nations Cup qualification and will have his African champion squad ready for the challenge of Kampala.
“As we announce the squad which the coach has selected for next month’s second leg qualifier match between Zambia and Uganda in Kampala, we would like to emphasize that our focus is qualification,’’ Mwanza said during a media briefing at Football House.
‘’Playing at the Africa Cup of 2013 and defending our trophy in South Africa is the priority of the Zambia National Soccer Team. That is our primary target. We will go to Uganda with that focus and we will be ready,”
He added: “You probably by now know the work ethic and philosophy of coach Renard. When he says we will be ready and strong in Kampala, he means just that. We will be ready and we will be strong. All we need to do is to encourage the team and give them confidence.”
The FAZ Spokesperson said the team will set camp to prepare for Uganda on 6th October with Johannesburg a likely venue. The match is scheduled for the weekend of 12th to 14th October at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Nambole.
The reigning kings of African football carry a precious one nil lead into the second leg.
