Zesco United edge out Indeni

A 42nd minute long range strike by Chileshe "Shabalala" Kangwa was all Zesco needed to return to the top of the MTN/FAZ Super League on goal difference from Zanaco who play Nkana at Sunset Stadium on Sunday.

Zesco's win means they are level on 32 points with a better goal difference from Zanaco, but the bankers have played a match less. Zanaco could return to the top of the log and finish as mid-season champions if the beat Nkana on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Green Buffaloes inspired by Allan Mukuka, were 2 – 0 winners over ten-man Konkola Blades at Woodlands Stadiums and moved into seventh position with 22 points.

The early momentum belonged to Blades, who had two free kicks awarded to them in the first two minutes and kept play concentrated inside the Buffaloes half.

However, for all their enterprise in the opening ten minutes, there was no threat on the Buffaloes goal and with 36 minutes gone, the military men drew first blood.

Allan Mukuka manufactured enough space to find Michael Bulaya, who made no mistake from point blank range.

Damiano Phiri, who came on as a 35th minute substitute for Noel Mwandira was a beneficiary of another Allan Mukuka cross when the ball fell in his path after goalkeeper Collins Chomba made an error in the 50th minute. Phiri who was completely unmarked in the penalty box picked up the ball and slotted home for Buffaloes second.

Elsewhere, veteran striker Harry Milanzi was on target for Napsa Stars but his goal was not enough to prevent a 2 - 1 loss away to Forest Rangers who moved into ninth position with 19 points.

In Mazabuka, Fighton Simukonda's Nakambala Leopards moved into eleventh position with 15 points after they were held to a 1-all draw by Roan United who remained in fifteenth position with 12 points.

National Assembly continued to muster good results under new coach Mohammed Fathy with a 2-1 away win against Konkola Mine Police. John Lomani and Moses Phiri got the goals for parliamentarians while Mushili Chanda scored for the home side.

In Chingola, Nchanga Rangers who recently parted ways with coach Bruce Mwape were humiliated to a 1 - 0 defeat to Green Eagles in a match that saw their goalkeeper Mucheleng'anga miss a penalty.

Nchanga Rangers are now eighth on the log with 21 points while Eagles moved to tenth position on 16 points.

Action returns in the MTN/FAZ Super League with week 16 round of matches on 14th July 2012 after a three week mid-season recess effective Sunday.
