30 Jan 2012 02:16:22
Coach Herve Renard is now targeting a semi-final slot for Zambia after finishing top of Group A at the Orange Africa Cup of Nations.
Renard said with a quarter-final place secured, it was his desire to take the Chipolopolo to another level.
He praised his players for showing maturity and tactical discipline at the Nations Cup.
Renard was also full of praise of the Chipolopolo for finishing first in the group just like they did it in Angola two years ago.
He said it was a fantastic play by his charges to defeat Equatorial Guinea before their partisan home crowd at the 15,000-capacity Estadio de Nuevo in Malabo.
Skipper Christopher Katongo said the Chipolopolo's 1-0 victory over Nzalang Nacional was achieved through team work and that he was proud to score for Zambia.
Katongo said it was important for the team to get to the quarter-finals and that now the Chipolopolo would do its best to go as far as possible in the competition.
Like Renard, Katongo said the team's focus now was reach the last four.
Zambia returns to Equatorial Guinea commercial city of Bata for Saturday's quarter-final match against the runners-up from Group B.
