Kalusha urges belief and support

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Kalusha Bwalya says the Chipolopolo victory against Senegal was an expected great result which sets the Zambia National Soccer Team on a good path in Group A.

The FAZ chief was also quick to call for the entire nation and Chipolopolo supporters to rally with the team.

“It’s time we got everybody supporting the team. The result against Senegal was something we were looking at. We believed we could get a great result in our opening game and the boys put in a good shift and performance. It was a fantastic three points and a great way to start.

The coming games will be tougher. Now the challenge is for everybody to believe a little more in the team and give them support,” Kalusha told fazfootball.com in Bata.

He added; “the mood in the camp is wonderful. The boys are relaxed and back at training focusing on the next game against Libya. They understand the significance of that match and their feet are on the ground.”

In match day one, the Chipolopolo beat the much-hyped Teranga Lions 2-1 in their opening game of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Zambia coach Herve Renard who consistently told the local and foreign media that his team would be ready by January 21 described his Chipolopolo’s performance against Senegal as "perfection."

Emmanuel Mayuka and Rainford Kalaba got Zambia's first half goals, with Senegal substitute Dame Ndoye pulling one back in the second half.

"We knew the opportunity to score would be to play behind their [defenders]," Renard said after the game.

"We have very strong players who want to play in the air - and we had perfection in the first half."

"We lost some maturity in the second half but the most important thing is to win the game," he said. The coach said that careful preparation had brought success.

"It's not a surprise for us - it's a result of a lot of work [although] we were a bit lucky in the second half because they hit the post as well," the coach said.

Zambia takes on Libya in Bata on Wednesday. A victory over the Libyans would almost certainly seal a quarter final place for Chipolopolo.
